Job Description
The University of Hertfordshire is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and proactive Data Analyst to join our Insight Team to support the University transform lives and achieve its strategic goals.
Salary
UH 7 £37,009 – £40,521 pa with potential to progress to £44,263 pa on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave
30 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location
Hybrid – De Havilland Campus, MacLaurin Building, and at home
Main duties and responsibilities
As a member of the Insight team, your key responsibility will not only be to report on existing trends and ongoing recruitment performance but to identify and evaluate opportunities. To achieve this, you would be expected to be able to interpret and convert large complex data sets, using a range of methods and data transformation tools, create data visualisation, typically in Tableau and communicate key findings.
Most commonly, this would involve analysing data published by UCAS, HESA or our own admissions data.
Using historical data and trends analysis, you will also be asked to create forecasts and models on university applications and acceptances and summarise findings in easily digestible reports to inform Departmental or University policy and decision-making.
The Data Analyst would additionally undertake bespoke research and analyses in response to requests from the department.
Skill and experience required
Demonstrable experience of constructively challenging assumptions and traditional views, identifying issues and generating/implementing new, and adapting the tried and tested approaches to develop solutions to challenges and opportunities. Demonstrable experience of using specialist analytical and reporting software or advanced functionality of Microsoft Excel, employing a range of practices to analyse and explain complex data sets. Demonstrable experience of using data visualisation software e.g. Tableau, Qlikview and Power BI to help uncover the stories behind the data.
Qualifications required
A minimum of an Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent level 6 qualification), in a numerical subject such as Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or similar; or equivalent proven experience.
