JOB OVERVIEW

As a Data Engineer within the Trust, you will play an important role in the redevelopment of our data and analytics platform, focusing on utlilising SQL and Python on a cloud-based Databricks data management solution.

This is a green-field project where you’ll have the opportunity to shape and optimise our data infrastructure from the ground up, replacing old infrastructure and ultimately contributing to improved patient care, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

Additionally, we welcome individuals seeking a secondment opportunities from similar business intelligence and data management roles within the wider NHS, providing a chance to collaborate and share expertise in this transformative endeavour.

SALARY

£35,392 – £42,618 per annum

MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB

  • Monitor automated data flows, appropriately intervening when required.
  • Develop, maintain automated data flows and resulting data assets.
  • Administrate on-premises and cloud-based information management and reporting systems.
  • Be a subject matter expert within the organisation regarding data management, data analysis, and associated software and system use
  • Translate data into valuable insights and present through a range of presentation tools and techniques

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications
  • Post-degree level qualification in the relevant area, or equivalent experience and relevant specialist knowledge, for example Structured Query Language (SQL), data modelling, and knowledge of data warehouse loading patterns
  • Evidence of continued professional development and/or experimental learning in subjects related to the position
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS Data Definitions and terminology including the NHS Data Dictionary
  • Awareness of one or more computer programming languages in addition to SQL, and their appropriate use cases

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working in the field where the post is held
  • Writing complex, efficient, and easy-to-read SQL statements
Desirable criteria
  • Working with Healthcare Information Systems and their data extracts
  • Experience of other programming languages – eg Python

Skills & Competencies

  • Logical approach to technical problems and attention to detail
  • Work to deadlines and prioritise work accordingly
Desirable criteria
  • Working with semi-structured data formats, e.g. text, JSON or XML
  • Use of BI reporting tools – eg Power BI
