To achieve this mission of being a Digital First BBC, we are building a data organisation which will lead cultural and organisational change. This includes transitioning the BBC to a data product organisation, evolving our data architecture and embedding data capabilities company wide. To help us progress along that journey, the recently created Data Governance function plays a crucial part. Data Governance function is under the Director of Data in Product Group. We are establishing the data governance team in order drive the implementation of our data governance strategy. This role will report to the Head of Data Governance, in Product Group.
Trusted data is a fundamental aspect of our data strategy. Our Data Governance strategy will be key to deliver on this.
As a Senior Data Governance Manager, you will play a crucial role in structuring and governing our data to drive meaningful actions and insights. By establishing a robust data governance framework, you will empower teams to maximise the value derived from our data.
You will play a critical role at identifying, articulating, reporting and managing the risk associating to data governance at the BBC.
Main Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Governance Manager within a Federated Data Governance team, you will play a key role in developing and implementing effective data management and governance in support of a Data Mesh architecture.
You will lead on the management of our data risk profile including oversight of data governance committee risk register.
Specifically, you will be responsible for these activities:
Implementation of the data governance framework
- Deploying the data governance framework working closely with data teams, risk and the organisation domains to ensure it is successful
- Establishing and enforcing data governance standards and best practices across domains, promoting data governance awareness and fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.
- Establishing the necessary forums to support the ongoing implementation of the data governance framework
- Defining the support model for compliance against the policies such as tools, training, processes and Governance.
Supporting data risk management
- The Data Governance Manager will be competent in understanding Risk and Compliance considerations, including Data Privacy and Security, to collaborate and opine accordingly
- Setting up and maintaining a risk register for the Data Governance Committee
- Maintain a roadmap for regular data audits to ensure compliance, address potential issues, and enhance data quality
Supporting data priorities from a data governance perspective
- Providing Data Governance expertise to strategic data initiatives and support appropriate deployment of data controls to mitigate data risks.
- Promote data governance disciplines and culture internally, educating the business on analytics, reporting, data management, and data quality.
- There will be an expectation to demonstrate proactive activity that results in value-adding progress and the adoption of best practice Data Governance
Are you the right candidate
- 5+ years of experience in a data governance role within a large organisation-preferably having been part of a digital transformation programme
- Experience of writing data governance related standards, guidance and processes.
- Excellent understanding and practical experience of implementing data governance and data risk across multiple stakeholders and roles
- Excellent influencing skills and ability to build effective relationships across business, technical, and governance functions
- Familiarity with data quality, data management, and data governance tools such as Collibra, DataHub or any other similar tools
- Experience with implementing a data access control strategy for tools like Tableau, Redshift, sandbox
Highly Regarded Skills
- An understanding of Data Engineering and Data Ops concepts, processes and toolsets is desirable
- An understanding of Data visualisation tools (PowerBI, Tableau or similar) and data management controls in these tools
- Experience of operational risk management in large and complex organisations
Salary
£75,000-£81,500 per annum
