HSBC UK is moving from being a ‘data-rich’ to ‘data-driven’ organisation via the work and support of the CMB UK Data and Analytics function. The department delivers data analytics, machine learning (ML) and management information which are used to measure, automate and improve the performance of the business. The department is at the centre of customer intelligence and marketing; using ML to communicate the right message, to the right customer, at the right time. The team is leading the adoption of cloud and open-source technologies using ML in innovative ways to automate processes, delivering efficiencies in banking operations and improving customer engagement.

We are currently seeking an experienced person to join this team in the role of Principal Data Analyst.

The Principal Data Analyst role is a critical position within the UK Commercial Banking Division, forming part of the Data and Analytics team. The role is dedicated to delivering forward-looking, analytics-based insights and decision science to support the bank’s strategic objectives in growth, simplification, and protection initiatives. You will offer extensive support within Commercial Banking (CMB) segments and products, in addition to Risk & Operations, Redress and Financial Support.

Your responsibilities will include:

•    Collaborate with the Analytics Team Manager and engage with senior stakeholders within the bank to discern business priorities and understand analytical needs to shape and bolster business strategies
•    Steering and executing on array of analytical and modelling projects from concept to completion
•    Utilising advanced analytical solutions to extract information from a variety of data sources, translating complex data into comprehensible business language
•    Contributing innovative ideas for projects, demonstrating keen business acumen and commercial insight
•    Establishing oneself as the Subject Matter Expert in the relevant area of expertise
•    Managing the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of a collection of strategic projects and reports
•    Managing stakeholder relationships adeptly and aligning expectations
•    Upholding stringent standards of accuracy and governance to ensure the integrity and reliability of data-driven insights

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should have:

•    Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, BigQuery and SAS
•    Familiarity with GCP (Google Cloud Platform) is advantageous
•    Experience with data visualisation tools like QlikSense & Looker is desirable
•    Exceptional analytical reasoning skills, with the ability to distil complex data into actionable business insights
•    Excellent oral and written communication and negotiation skills to colleagues across diverse organisational levels
•    Proven ability to manage stakeholders effectively and to drive business decisions
•    An understanding of Commercial Banking or financial services is desirable
