WHO WE ARE
Since 1821 the mission of the Guardian has been to use clarity and imagination to build hope.
Katharine Viner, editor-in-chief
The Guardian is globally renowned for its coverage of politics, the environment, science, social justice, sport and culture. Our journalists deliver agenda-setting investigations, breaking live news, compelling opinion writing and the liveliest features, as well as award-winning podcasts, video documentaries and infographics and visuals.
Diversity, equity & inclusion
We value and respect all differences (seen and unseen) in all people at the Guardian. We aspire to inclusive working experiences and an environment that reflects the audience we serve, where our people have equal access to career development opportunities, their voices are heard and can contribute to our future.
Our UK Race Action Plan [pdf], announced to staff in September 2020, commits to actions that encourage transparency, accountability and improve diversity across our business.
Guardian US shared their plan with US employees in August 2020, and Guardian Australia is also working on its own plan.
We have a Race Steering Committee composed of Guardian senior managers and staff from around the world, which raises awareness of race equality across the Guardian, monitors the Guardian’s performance in relation to its race action plan and holds senior executives and managers to account for actions related to race action plan.
